\"\"<\/a> David Todd<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>is a musician equally at home in the fields of opera and choral music, both in the UK and the rest of Europe. Most recently Kapellmeister and Studienleiter at the Mainfranken Theater in W\u00fcrzburg, Germany, he made his German conducting debut with Bellini’s\u00a0<\/i><\/span>i Capuleti e i Montecchi<\/em>, for which he was praised by Der Opernfreund for\u00a0<\/i><\/span>‘conducting full of colour and spirit, savouring every beat, every note and infecting the orchestra with his joy in the score, as well as the singers on stage.’\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He has since conducted a number of operas, ranging from standard repertoire (Die Zauberfl\u00f6te<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>La clemenza di Tito <\/em>and\u00a0Les contes d’Hoffmann)<\/em> to contemporary works, such as\u00a0Karl und Anna\u00a0<\/span><\/i>by Christoph Ehrenfellner. David recently participated in the finals of the Erich Bergel Conducting Competition and was also nominated for the critic’s prize ‘Orchestra of the Year’ in German publication Die Opernwelt<\/em> when he stepped in as pianist at short notice to replace the orchestra in Jan\u00e1\u010dek’s\u00a0<\/span>The Makropulos Case. <\/em>In\u00a02023 he began working as a Visiting Lecturer at the Hochschule for Music in W\u00fcrzburg.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Recent work includes Britten’s\u00a0<\/i><\/span>Death in Venice<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>for Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, as well as preparing the Netherlands Radio Choir for concerts with Marcus Creed. He was previously Assistant Chorus Master and R\u00e9p\u00e9titeur at Staatstheater Darmstadt, Germany, working on a number of productions\u00a0and conducting the Staatsorchester in various concerts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Originally from Solihull, England, David was trained as an Organ Scholar at Oxford University, the Royal Academy of Music (where he was recently awarded with an Associateship), and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (James Geddes Award). He has worked for Opera Holland Park (Chorus Master-Isabeau),\u00a0<\/em>and was r\u00e9p\u00e9titeur for the revival of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s\u00a0<\/span>Greek<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>at the Arcola Theatre, as well as working with many other opera companies in the UK.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While in London, David worked with choirs for the Southbank Centre, Courtauld Gallery and Morley College and as Chorus Master for the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. He was musical director of the inventive chamber choir ‘Myriad’, and Director of Music in the Parish of Wanstead. He also performed alongside concert pianist Murray Perahia, and in workshops with artists such as Malcolm Martineau and Simon Keenleyside, as well as participating in the prestigious Solti Accademia.\u00a0<\/span>He is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO) and holds British and German citizenship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In 2020, David began his blog ‘Opera with a Hot Toddy’ where he invites colleagues and friends from the opera world to discuss their work over a drink. His main series of articles offering practical advice to r\u00e9p\u00e9titeurs has recently been adapted and published online by Schmopera<\/a>. David’s first book, covering the history of his family in India and Fiji, was printed in 2021 and can be ordered via the contact form.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Seitdem hat er eine Reihe von Opern dirigiert, die vom Standardrepertoire (Die Zauberfl\u00f6te, La clemenza di Tito und Les contes d’Hoffmann) bis hin zu zeitgen\u00f6ssischen Werken wie Karl und Anna<\/em> von Christoph Ehrenfellner reichen. David nahm k\u00fcrzlich am Finale des Erich-Bergel-Dirigentenwettbewerbs teil und wurde au\u00dferdem f\u00fcr den Kritikerpreis \u201eOrchester des Jahres\u201c der deutschen Zeitschrift Die Opernwelt nominiert, als er kurzfristig als Pianist einsprang, um das Orchester in Jan\u00e1\u010deks Der Fall Makropulos zu ersetzen. Im Jahr 2023 begann er seine T\u00e4tigkeit als Gastdozent an der Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik in W\u00fcrzburg.<\/p>\n

In letzter Zeit hat er auch au\u00dferhalb von W\u00fcrzburg an Brittens Tod in Venedig <\/em>f\u00fcr das Theater und Orchester Heidelberg mitgewirkt und den Niederl\u00e4ndischen Rundfunkchor auf Konzerte mit Marcus Creed vorbereitet. Zuvor war er stellvertretender Chorleiter und Korrepetitor am Staatstheater Darmstadt, wo er an einer Reihe von Produktionen mitwirkte und das Staatsorchester in verschiedenen Konzerten dirigierte.<\/p>\n
