The orchestra presented itself in top form under the direction of David Todd. The young Briton has been Kapellmeister at the Mainfranken Theater since the beginning of the year and surprises me by conducting full of colour and esprit, seeming to savour every bar, every note and infecting the orchestra as much as the singers on stage with his joy in the score. He sets sporting tempos without rushing, and finds the necessary bel canto melt in the right places without overwhelming the audience. This pleased the public, who at the end of the evening applauded his performance as much as the singers on stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Todd, Studienleiter and Kapellmeister of the Mainfranken Theater, accompanied the premiere at the piano. There is no question that the Briton must have worked through days and nights to work out the elaborate motifs, their interweavings, the many subtleties, the sombre as well as the fantastic moments of the composition, in order to make it stage-ready for the piano in the short time available. After the premiere, many a visitor remarked that the evening might have been even better with a piano than with an orchestra…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Das Orchester pr\u00e4sentiert sich unter der Leitung von David Todd in Bestform. Der junge Brite ist seit Jahresbeginn Kapellmeister am Mainfrankentheater und \u00fcberrascht mich mit einem Dirigat voller Farben und Esprit, scheint jeden Takt, jede Note auszukosten und steckt mit seiner Freude an der Partitur das Orchester ebenso an wie die S\u00e4nger auf der B\u00fchne. Er legt sportliche Tempi vor, ohne zu \u00fcbereilen, und findet an den richtigen Stellen den n\u00f6tigen Belcantoschmelz, ohne die Zuh\u00f6rer zuzukleistern. Das gef\u00e4llt dem Publikum, das seine Leistung am Ende des Abends mit ebenso viel Beifall goutiert, wie das S\u00e4ngerpersonal auf der B\u00fchne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Und so begleitete David Todd, Studienleiter und Kapellmeister des Mainfranken Theaters, die Premiere also am Klavier. Dass der Brite Tage und N\u00e4chte durchgearbeitet haben d\u00fcrfte, um die kunstvollen Motive, ihre Verschr\u00e4nkungen, die vielen Feinheiten, das D\u00fcstere wie das Fantastische der Komposition in der K\u00fcrze der Zeit b\u00fchnenreif f\u00fcrs Klavier zu erarbeiten, steht au\u00dfer Frage. Mancher Premierenbesucher konstatierte im Anschluss, dass der Abend ja vielleicht mit Klavier glatt noch schooner gewesen sei als mit Orchester\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
