David Todd is Repetiteur and Assistant Chorus Master at Staatstheater Darmstadt, Germany. This 2019-2020 season he will be working on productions of Puccini’s Turandot, Beethoven’s Fidelio, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Turnage’s Twice Through the Heart, amongst many others, as well as making his conducting debut for the theatre in September. 

David was trained at Oxford University, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he was Repetiteur at the Alexander Gibson Opera School. He has worked for Opera Holland Park, London (Chorus Master, Isabeau), and was recently repetiteur for a special revival of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Greek with at the Arcola Theatre, which will return with English Touring Opera in 2020. 

David holds the post of Guest Conductor of the choir of Turku Cathedral, Finland, has worked for the Swiss-Italian Conservatoire in Switzerland, and as Associate Repetiteur for the Lyric Opera Studio in Weimar, Germany. While in London, he worked on and developed mixed arts events with venues such as the Southbank Centre, Courtauld Gallery and Morley College, and conducted the innovative chamber choir Myriad. 

Other highlights have included working as Chorus Master for the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, performing alongside concert pianist Murray Perahia, participating in workshops with artists such as Malcolm Martineau and Simon Keenleyside, and conducting the Brentwood Philharmonic Orchestra. David also participated in the prestigious Solti Accademia based in Venice. 

David is active as a recitalist and accompanist on the organ and piano. Performances include Handel’s Organ Concerto in G Minor with the Kings Chamber Orchestra alongside concert organist Jennifer Bate in Muswell Hill, and recitals of Messiaen’s complete organ suite La Nativité du Seigneur.
